Education for Heritage, Outdoor Education - Summer School
3-8th of September 2012, Hunedoara, Romania
The event is addressed to educational and cultural professionals interested in the topic of outdoor educational programmes for adults and dealing with cultural and natural heritage. Developed in the frame of the European cooperation project Education for Heritage, Outdoor Education, the school aims to present and test with an international group of professionals the educational material developed by the project partners, exploring the potential of learning in the outdoor settings represented by cultural and natural heritage sites.

Place
The summer school proposes three heritage sites situated in Hunedoara city (West side of Romania) and its surroundings, providing to the participants a wide specter of heritage assets and allowing them to test and apply the methodological resources of the project into an area diverse and rich in culture and nature. Three different types of cultural assets are proposed, from three different historical periods: built heritage of medieval origin, rural heritage, including local traditions and an archaeological site. All three are unique and exotic - as cultural assets - both at national level and international, existing in a social and economical disadvantaged area. In this perspective, the exploration of and reflection on the relations between education, culture and sustainable local development will constitute an important point on the event agenda.

Summer school methodology
The participants will work in groups, each group being assigned a specific heritage site to work on. The activities will include lectures, field documentation, interviews and study visit on site, design of educational programmes (group and individual activity), testing of the education programme on site (group and individual activity) with selected beneficiaries (locals and school participants), final tuning of the programmes after feedback from the beneficiaries of the programmes, conclusions.
The working language is English.
